Speaking as we Find

Tyne Bridge Publishing will be launching their latest book Speaking as we Find which is an oral history of the working lives of the women of Tyneside between the 1930s and 1980s. The author and other women involved with this project will be talking about this fascinating book, which was the result of Caroline Barker Bennett interviewing working women in Tyneside in the 1980s. The voices of these women document the changing conditions, struggles and everyday experiences of working in many different factories, shops and offices during at time when demand for their skills was on the increase. However, this demand was not always reflected in their pay, conditions and treatment within these workplaces. Through these conversations with the author, we are given valuable insight into an important part of our region’s social history which is often overlooked. The book also contains some unseen photos from the period.

All are welcome and refreshments served.
